How the UDJC riding levels work
UDJC levels give families a visible path forward. Each level combines mounted skill with horse care, theory, and responsibility so advancement represents a complete education.
Six minute readUnicorn builds the first relationship
Unicorn is a playful introduction for young children. In a small group of up to three riders, children learn safe barn behavior, grooming, trust, balance, and supported riding. The Unicorn Badge marks a meaningful first foundation.
Level B creates independent basics
Level B is a personal foundation with one rider and one trainer. Riders work toward a secure seat, control at walk and trot, early canter skills, and the independence to ride safely without constant assistance.
Level E broadens the coursework
Level E brings independent riders into small group lessons. The curriculum includes dressage patterns, thoughtful transitions, polework, small fences, horse care, and weekly horsemanship education.
Level A supports committed goals
Level A is available by trainer approval for committed riders. It deepens flatwork, technical jumping, horse knowledge, and preparation for competition or other long term goals. Dressage and jumping are parts of this advanced curriculum, not separate beginner tracks.
Riders advance through demonstrated ability and understanding. A badge reflects readiness, not simply time spent in lessons.
